Block The Pig — Play Free Online

Block The Pig is a small turn-based trapping puzzle by Sun Temple, released on Poki in 2020. A pig stands on a grassy board made of hexagonal tiles and is looking for a way off it. You drop stone blocks on the tiles to wall it in. Surround it so it has no free tile to step onto and you clear the round; leave a gap and it runs away.

How to play

Click an empty hex tile to place a stone on it. On a phone or tablet, tap the tile instead. Play alternates: you place a stone, then the pig takes a step. The pig is not random. It works out the shortest open path off the board and heads that way, so each stone you place should cut the route it is most likely to take next.

Now and then the game shows a "Place more blocks" banner with a small counter of up to three. That is how many stones you may put down before the pig gets to move again, and it is the best moment to shape the board.

When you first open the game it asks "Would you like a tutorial?". Saying yes walks you through placing stones, with a hand pointing at the tile to tap.

Rounds and losing

The game is a run of rounds that get harder as you go, and it remembers the highest round you have reached. Losing the pig ends the run: the game resets and you begin again from the first round, which is why the on-screen warning tells you not to let it get away.

Why the hex grid matters

Each hex tile touches six others instead of the four sides of a square. A pig in open ground therefore has several ways forward, and one stone per turn cannot close them all. Trapping it comes down to getting ahead of its path rather than chasing it.

Tips

• When you get extra stones, use them to start a wall between the pig and the nearest edge instead of piling them right next to the pig.
• Find the pig's shortest way out and block that tile first; when two routes are equally short, close the one that leaves you room to block the other on your next turn.
• Build a loose ring a few tiles away from the pig and tighten it, rather than reacting one tile at a time.
• Since losing the pig sends you back to round one, think through each placement before you click.
