Stickman Army The Defenders is a lane defense game from Playtouch, the studio that also makes the other Stickman Army games. A green stickman army holds the lawn in front of the White House, and a red army keeps marching in to take it. You never steer a soldier directly. Instead you decide who stands where, and the soldiers you place do the shooting for you.

How a battle works

Each stage is laid out as a grid of 5 rows and 9 columns. Red stickmen come in from the far side and walk along their row toward the building. You pick a unit from the bar at the edge of the screen and drop it on a free tile, and from then on it fights whatever comes down its lane. A stage is split into waves with a short pause between them, and later stages add flag waves where a larger crowd arrives at once. If the red side gets through, the stage is lost.

Everything is done with the mouse: click a unit card, then click the tile where it should stand. On a phone or tablet the same steps work with taps, since the game supports touch screens.

The units

The game ships with a long roster of green soldiers that you unlock and upgrade in the shop as you go. A sample of the names you will see on the cards:

• Gunner, Frozen Gunner, Pyroman and Exterminator
• Mr Bomber, TNT Addict, Bomber Stick and Molotov Support
• Shielder, Tough Shielder and Plasma Shield
• Karate Kid, Ninja Assassin and Rambo
• Submarine, Coastguard and Aquasoldier
• Jetpack, Parachutiste, Sticko Bazooka, Red Rocketter, Green Rocketter and Rocketeer
• Landing Assistant, Chief Pilot Landing and Gold Seeker

Beyond the soldiers themselves, the shop sells extra slots for the unit bar, so you can bring more soldier types into a single stage. Air support also shows up during play as a way to get extra supplies.

Stars and progress

Stages open one after another on a level select screen, and each one is graded with stars based on your score. Going back to an earlier stage with a stronger line-up is a fair way to pick up missing stars and more currency for upgrades.

Tips

• Cover every row early; an empty lane gives the red army a free path to the building.
• Read the names on new cards and try each one in an easy stage before relying on it in a hard one.
• Expect the flag waves near the end of a stage and keep some money and a few tiles free for them.
• Buying the extra bar slots pays off, because later stages mix in more kinds of enemies.
