A runner set in a land of sweets

Sweet Run is a candy-themed platform runner that has been on Poki since November 2020. Poki lists Sakkat Studio as the developer, while the game's own description there credits IP Zlata Roshchina and calls it their first game on the site. The setting is a bright cartoon world where the hills are jam and the roads are made of dough, with cotton candy, lollipops and candy canes in the background. It looks gentle, but the run speeds up the longer you last.

Controls

• Left and Right arrows: move.
• Up arrow: jump. Holding it gives a higher jump.
• Down arrow: slide (the game's tutorial calls it a roll).
• Down arrow in mid-air: dash.

The tutorial walks through each move in turn: press to jump, hold to jump higher, hold to roll, hold to dash, and finally jump and dash together. Sweet Run also works on phones and tablets.

Levels and hazards

Levels are picked from a map screen, and every so often a "Bonus level!" appears between the regular ones. Each level is assembled from a list of short obstacle sections. Along the course you meet candy blocks, jelly and lava, and you collect coins as you go. A failed run ends on a "Game over" screen.

Characters

Coins are spent in the shop on new characters to run as. You start with the Basic runner, and the others are bought with coins: Ninja, Mexico, Fairy, Pirate, Dinosaur, Angel, Jason, Devil, Panda, Zombie, Vampire, Superhero, Princess and Police, with the pricier Mouse, Harry, Hodor, Freddy and Pharaoh near the top of the list. Only one character can be equipped at a time.

Tips

• Learn the difference between a press and a hold on Up, since holding gives a higher jump.
• Not every obstacle is meant to be jumped: the game expects you to slide past some of them.
• Collect coins on every run; the cheapest new characters cost far less than the top tier.
