About Merge Cakes

Merge Cakes is an idle merge game by RavalMatic, released in November 2020 and playable in desktop and mobile browsers. You run a bakery on a grid of cake trays: new desserts arrive under covers, two identical desserts combine into a better one, and the desserts on your trays earn coins that you spend on more stock. The aim is to discover every recipe in the chain and keep your bakery growing.

How to play

Everything works with a click or a tap. The tutorial walks through the loop in a few steps:

1. Tap a covered dessert to reveal what is underneath.
2. Merge two desserts of the same kind to get the next recipe in the chain.
3. Tap repeatedly to drop more cake covers onto empty trays.
4. Open the shop and use your coins to buy upgraded cakes directly.

Room on the board is the main limit. When every tray is taken the game tells you that you have run out of cake trays, and extra room on the board unlocks as you progress. Special covers also turn up, including gift sweets and surprise sweets.

Two bakeries

The game has two separate bakeries, each with its own recipe chain:

• Cake House starts with a Panellet and works up through Cannoli, doughnuts, profiteroles, pancakes, cupcakes, waffles and glazed pies to a Rainbow cake, a Unicorn Wedding cake and finally the Fruity Feast Flourishment.
• Pastry Saloon deals in sweets and biscuits instead: Chocoletters, Gummies, Chocosticks, Bombons, Santa's Biscuits, Danish Cookies and Gingerbread, ending with the Holy Ginger Feast.

The second bakery unlocks later in the game, and switching between the two lets you build both chains.

Achievements and restarting

Seven achievements run in each bakery, and each one has three star levels to fill. They are Innovative Baker (discover new recipes), Expert Merger (reach a set level), Sweet tooth buyer (buy sweets), Chef Merger (merge a set number of times), Impatient cook (tap sweet covers), Dessert lover (open covers) and Exquisite Palate (open surprise sweets). Each star level carries its own prize.

The restart option resets your progress in exchange for prizes. You keep your achievements and badges, receive a special restart badge, and get a permanent boost to production in the bakery you restarted.

Tips

• Merge whenever two matching desserts are on the board; free trays are what let new covers land.
• Buying higher cakes in the shop skips several merge steps, so check it whenever you have coins to spare.
• Keep an eye on the achievement list. Taps, merges and opened covers all count towards stars, and the prizes speed up the next purchase.
• Save the restart for when progress slows down, since the production bonus lasts for every later run.
