What 2 Minute Football Classic is

2 Minute Football Classic is an arcade American football game from igamebank, whose copyright line sits inside the game itself. You only play offense, as the quarterback, and the camera looks down on the field from above and behind your team. Each match runs on a short game clock shown in the corner, so a game takes a few minutes rather than an afternoon.

The scoreboard along the top tracks the down and distance, your points total and how many touchdowns you have scored. A coach in a headset appears with short tips, for example when the playoffs begin.

How to play

• Pick a play: before every snap a panel at the bottom shows three route diagrams, and a small play clock counts down while you choose one.
• Throw: once the ball is snapped, the receivers run their routes; click or tap close to the player you want, and the ball goes to him.
• Run: after a catch, steer the ball carrier by dragging the mouse or a finger, or with the keyboard, and weave around tacklers.
• Spin: a double-tap, or the Space bar, makes the runner spin away from a defender, but only once per play.

A runner keeps going until he is tackled or steps out of bounds, and going out of bounds stops the clock, which matters late in a match. Throws into coverage can be intercepted, and the game tells you so in large letters.

Seasons, playoffs and scores

To win a match you need three touchdowns before time runs out; after your first score the game reminds you how many more you still need. Matches are grouped into seasons, starting with a Rookie Season and then a Freshman Season, and finishing a season moves you up. The playoffs open with a screen where you pick a face icon with the arrows and can roll a new random player name, and the end goal is the World Championship shown on the field logo.

Every match feeds a high-score table that lists player names, points and your own rank. The end-of-game summary counts touchdowns, first downs, your passing streak, yards gained, runs, Hail Marys and a QB rating. The game also hands out QB coins, and new helmets can be unlocked.

After a bad play you may be offered a rewind, a do-over that lets you replay the down. There are also time-out and auto mode options, plus pause, help, settings and sound buttons along the bottom of the screen.

Tips

• Choose your play quickly: the play clock is short, and wasted seconds come off the game clock you need for three scores.
• When time is low, steer toward the sideline after a catch, because stepping out stops the clock.
• Save the spin for the defender who is actually about to reach you, since you only get one per play.
