What Football Masters is

Football Masters is an arcade soccer game from Madpuffers, the studio behind the Moto X3M series, and it belongs to the same family as their Basketball Stars. It was released in December 2019 and was pitched as a warm-up for the Euro 2020 tournament, which is why the teams you pick from are European national sides. Each side fields one or two players, so matches are fast and open rather than full eleven-a-side games.

How to play

• Move: WASD or the arrow keys
• Shooting: press either the X key or the L key
• Special ability: press either the Z key or the K key

The game also works on phones and tablets in landscape.

Modes

• Quick Match / Friendly Match: a one-off game outside the cup.
• Tournament: a cup run shown on a tournament grid, going through the quarterfinal and semifinal to the final. You can continue a saved run or start a new one.
• Co-op: a second player can join on the same device, and the official description notes that you and a friend can also face each other.

Teams

The team list in the game files includes Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, England, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Israel, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Turkey and Ukraine. There is a match preview screen before kick-off and a half-time break during the game.

The two special abilities

Before a match you choose between two players, and each one carries a different special move:

• Thundershot: a very hard kick.
• Teleport: jumps your player to a spot behind the ball, so you can get back into position fast.

Tips

• Pick Thundershot if you like to shoot from range and Teleport if you tend to lose track of the ball.
• A tournament run can be continued from the menu, so you do not need to finish the cup in one sitting.
• Watch the match preview screen before kick-off to see who you are up against.
