About 9 Ball Pool
9 Ball Pool is a browser billiards game from Bekho Games, released on Poki in February 2021. It plays the rotation variant of pool: on every shot the cue ball has to strike the lowest-numbered ball left on the table first. Whoever sinks the 9 ball wins the rack, which means the game can end early if the 9 drops off a legal combination shot.
The game runs on the PlayCanvas engine and works on computers as well as phones and tablets.
Modes
- Play vs CPU: take turns against a computer opponent.
- Play vs Multiplayer: the second option on the main menu, for a match against another player.
Controls
Click and hold, then drag the cursor to set the direction of the shot, and let go to shoot. On a touch screen you drag with a finger in the same way. A power bar appears while you aim, and a timer runs during each turn, so you cannot line up a shot forever.
Fouls in this version
The game checks every shot against a set of rules and hands the turn to your opponent when you break one. The foul messages it shows include:
- Touching the wrong ball first, instead of the lowest number on the table.
- Pocketing the cue ball.
- Missing every ball with the cue ball.
- A shot after which no ball reaches a rail.
- Running out of time before you shoot.
- Sinking the 9 ball on the very first shot, which this version does not allow.
Tips
- Always find the lowest-numbered ball before you aim. Hitting a different ball first is a foul even if something drops.
- Look for combinations. A legal hit on the lowest ball that knocks the 9 into a pocket wins the rack on the spot.
- Do not tap the cue ball too softly. If nothing reaches a cushion after contact, the shot counts as a foul.
- Keep an eye on the turn timer so a slow decision does not hand your opponent a free foul.
Bekho Games has several other sports and arcade titles on Poki, including Bowling Stars, Golf Champions, Free Kick Shooter and Bubble Shots.
