A duck-raising game with a twist

The build on this page is Duck Life 3: Evolution, the third chapter of the Duck Life series from Wix Games. As in the earlier games, you do not race directly at first. You train a young duck in a set of mini-games, watch its stats climb, and only then send it to compete. What makes Ducklife 3 different from its predecessors is that training changes the duck's body. Push one skill hard and your bird turns into a new form, announced by an excited "I'm evolving!" message.

Training sessions

There are four disciplines: running, swimming, flying and climbing. Each one has training games at amateur, advanced and professional difficulty,. The controls change with the activity:

  • For swimming, keep the mouse button pressed to make the duck paddle.
  • For running, a click makes the duck hop over objects that roll toward it.
  • Some sessions ask you to drag across the screen to steer.
  • Climbing has you leaping from one wall of a canyon to the other, or from building to building while dodging balconies and satellite dishes.

On a phone or tablet the same actions become taps, holds and swipes; the game's instructions include touch versions of each prompt.

Training costs energy. When the duck is exhausted, the game stops you and you need to feed it seed, or the stronger super seed, before carrying on.

Forms your duck can take

The evolutions depend on how you train. The game describes results such as a strong duck, a lanky duck, a mer-duck that suits the water, an athletic type, and one that has become more bird than duck. There is even an ugly duck.

Racing up the leagues

Once you feel ready, choose a league. There are three: Amateur, Advanced and Professional. Every league has a qualifying race and a final, and winning lets you enter the next level. A finish outside first place earns a gentle message telling you to train some more and return. Prizes are paid in coins, and beating the top league crowns your duck champion of the world.

Spending coins

The shop sells cosmetic extras. You can buy hats such as a safari hat or a bowler, paint your duck in shades like Deep Purple or Crazy Red, and give it a hairstyle, including liberty spikes or emo hair.

Tips

  • Spread your training if you want an all-round racer, since races test different skills.
  • Watch the energy bar and feed your duck before it runs dry, so a training run is not cut short.
  • If a race goes badly, follow the game's advice: go back to training, raise the weak skill, then enter again.
