About 4th And Goal 2024

Glowmonkey made 4th And Goal 2024, a quarterback-focused American football game, and released it on Poki in February 2024 as the latest entry in a series that goes back to 4th and Goal 2013. You play as the quarterback: before each snap you call a play from the playbook, then you run the play yourself, choosing whether to throw to a receiver or keep the ball and run. The game is built for computers and is played with the keyboard, with the mouse used for menus.

On a passing play the receivers are marked with circles labelled A, S and D, so the letter you press decides who gets the ball.

Modes and settings

• Quick Game: pick a home team and a visitor and play a single match.
• Championship: one game for the title.
• Playoffs: pick a team and work through a playoff bracket round by round.

Before kickoff you also set the game clock and the difficulty, which runs from Rookie through Veteran and All Pro up to Hall of Fame. The field can be switched between the standard turf and Blue, Camo, Dark mode, USA and Black and White designs.

The playbook

The offensive playbook is split by formation: Ace, Bunch, Empty, I, Shotgun and Split, each with its own set of runs and passes, plus separate Red Zone and Specials pages. Special teams have their own screens for kickoffs, onside kicks, kick returns, field goals and the conversion after a touchdown. On defence you choose a coverage, and a hard tackle can produce a Big Hit that knocks the ball loose for a fumble. Interceptions and safeties are in the game as well.

Tips

• Watch the A, S and D circles on the field after the snap; the letters tell you exactly which key reaches which receiver.
• If no receiver is free, use the arrow keys to scramble and pick up a few yards; a short gain still sets up the next play.
• On defence, Big Hits are the way to force fumbles and get the ball back for your offence.
• Start on Rookie while you learn the formations, then move up to Veteran, All Pro and Hall of Fame.
