Battle Golf — Play Free Online

Battle Golf is a two-player golf duel by Colin Lane Games AB. Colin Lane is also the maker of the sports games Dunkers, Touchdowners and Rowdy Wrestling. Battle Golf arrived on Poki in December 2019, and Poki lists it as a desktop game, so it is meant for a keyboard rather than a phone or tablet. The version here is built with the Stencyl engine and uses real physics for the ball.

How a shot works

There are no clubs to pick and no mouse dragging. Each shot is played with a single key pressed twice. The first press fixes the angle the ball will leave at, and the second press sets the force behind it. Poki describes the controls in the same way: Space to aim, Space to shoot. If you press too early or too late on either step, the ball goes somewhere you did not plan.

Two people share one keyboard. The game shows its own key prompts on screen, and the build contains prompts for Space, Z, X and the Up arrow, so read the start screen to see which key belongs to which player before the first hole.

What is in the game

• Random holes: the hole is spawned in a random spot, so there is no fixed course to memorise.
• Birds: birds are created during play and the ball can hit them in flight.
• Power-ups: a random power-up can appear on the course.
• Two scores: each player has a separate score, and the game names a winner at the end of a match.
• Co-op record: there is also a co-op score, and the best co-op result is saved in your browser.
• Tutorial: a tutorial for each player shows how the two-press shot works.

Tips

• Treat the two presses as separate decisions: first get the angle right, then think only about force.
• Because the hole moves each time, look at where it is before your first press instead of repeating your last shot.
• Watch for birds when you choose your angle, because the ball can collide with them on the way.
• Agree on keys with the other player before you start, using the prompts on the start screen.

Good to know

Battle Golf needs two people for a proper match, both sitting at the same computer. Poki's page calls it a competitive game for two and asks which of you can make more hole-in-ones, which sums up the point of it: a head-to-head contest against the person sitting next to you.
