Cat Gunner Super Zombie Shoot is a pixel-art zombie shooter in which armed cats fight their way through an outbreak. The story is told day by day: each day is a short stage with a set goal, and finishing days unlocks new cats, new modes and better gear. Cats you rescue, scientists you free and a recipe for stopping the disaster tie the levels together.

How to play

The tutorial teaches the basics in three steps: drag to move, use the shoot button, and switch to your other guns. On a computer the game also accepts WASD or the arrow keys. Each stage gives you a mission, and the ones written into the game are:

• kill all enemies on the map
• rescue hostages, or rescue the School Cat
• survive
• find the brains

The loading screens add their own advice: stand inside the circle to rescue a trapped scientist, shoot barrels to make power-ups drop, upgrade your guns so enemies go down faster, and spend items when a level gets hard.

Cats

There are six playable cats, each with a perk tied to a weapon:

• Basic Cat: free, extra damage with the starting Bizon
• School Cat: unlocks at Day 6, more shotgun damage
• Rambo Cat: unlocks at Day 10, cannot be knocked back
• Halo Cat: unlocks at Day 14, halves the AWP cooldown
• Super Cat: unlocks at Day 14, doubles the Electric Gunner's bullets
• Captain Cat: unlocks at Day 18, extra AK-47 damage

Guns and mounts

The armory holds eleven weapons: the Bizon, AK-47 (three bullets per shot), AWP (shots pierce zombies), Desert Tiger, Shotgun (wide area), Minigun, Rocket (locks on to enemies), Flame (burns over time), Electric Gunner (shocks several enemies at once), Protonz (three proton balls) and Ice Beam. Every gun can be upgraded, up to level 30. Cats can also ride mounts called Hover, Bike, T-rex, Jet and Whiz, which you unlock and upgrade by collecting fragments.

Enemies and bosses

The zombies have names and one-line jokes on their info cards, from Meek ("very slow and sad") to Baboom, Tough, Blind, Swim, Farmer and Mechanic, alongside turrets. Boss fights include Buffy Cat, a Double Turret and a Tank. Some maps add traps: shields, electric fields, poison and spikes.

Modes

Story mode is split into four areas, Street, Warehouse, Station and Park, each on Easy, Normal and Hard; Normal stays locked until you clear Easy, and first wins pay extra. An Events mode opens after the early days, and there is an Arena, an endless mode that hands out coins, bucks, fish and mount fragments at milestones, a reward wheel, and a seasonal ranking with Bronze, Silver and Gold tiers.
