Swatforce vs Terrorists is a defence strategy game from the studio Playtouch, published on Poki in July 2019. You do not run around and shoot by hand. Instead you hold a small outpost in the middle of the screen, arm the squad that guards it, build obstacles in the path of the attackers and let your choices do the fighting while waves close in from both sides.

How to play

Everything is done with the mouse: click buttons, pick an item and click where it should go. On a phone or tablet the same actions are taps, and the game works in either screen orientation. Each level is split into waves, with a short pause between them. Enemies can walk in from the left edge, the right edge or both at once, so a defence that only covers one side will not hold for long.

The coins you earn while playing are spent in the shop between levels. Each level also awards up to three stars, with each star tied to a higher score.

Weapons and defences in the shop

The shop has two halves. The first is firearms for your soldiers. You start with a Single Pistol, and every other gun only becomes available after you have bought the one before it, in this order:

1. Shotgun – short range but it knocks enemies back
2. Machine Gun
3. Javelin – a slow missile launcher whose hits damage an area
4. AK assault rifle – long range
5. Flamethrower – short range, heavy damage
6. Bazooka – very high damage per shot
7. Sniper – long range and very heavy single hits

The second half is defences you place on the ground: Sandbag, Iron sheet, Barbed Wire, Landmine, Iron Boulder and an automatic gun called the Turret of Death. They are not instant – each one takes a few seconds to build after you place it. Guns can be upgraded four times and defences three times, with each step raising range, damage or critical chance, and the later upgrade tiers cost many times more than the first.

What you are up against

The build defines five enemy types. They differ in walking speed, health and the damage they deal; one type is slow but very tough, one hits extremely hard if it reaches your line, and one attacks from a distance instead of walking up to the wall. The number of waves grows as you advance, from a handful in the first stages to a long final level, so the campaign gets steadily harder.

Tips

• Spend early coins on unlocking the gun chain; each new weapon opens the next one.
• Put barriers on both flanks before a wave starts, since builds are not instant.
• Short-range guns like the Shotgun and Flamethrower need a barrier in front of them to buy time.
• Keep long-range guns such as the Sniper in your line-up for the enemy type that attacks from a distance.
