What Repuls Io is

Repuls Io (written Repuls.io by its maker) is an online first-person shooter by Docski, released on Poki in November 2020. You drop into a match against real players and fight as a futuristic augmented soldier. Movement is fast, and the game is built so you can run, jump and shoot at the same time rather than stopping to aim. Every gun handles differently, so most of the learning is about finding a weapon pair that suits the way you like to play.

Weapons and loadouts

The 1 key swaps weapons. The arsenal covers the usual shooter roles, from shotguns for close fights to snipers for long sightlines, and each gun has clear strengths and weaknesses. Grenades sit on their own key, and the melee strike on Q finishes off an enemy who gets too close. Because every gun is so different, it pays to try several before settling on a favourite.

Modes and vehicles

Matches can be played in teams or alone. The game's files include classic deathmatch, capture the flag and a hill-capture objective mode. Maps also hold vehicles, which change a fight quickly: the build contains a tank, a walking mech, a motorcycle, a hovercraft, a helicopter and a jeep with a seat for a gunner. There is also a grapple shot for pulling yourself around a map.

Every match earns experience. As your level rises you unlock more of the game, and there are clans for players who want to stick together.

Tips

• Keep moving. Standing still while you aim is the easiest way to lose a duel here.
• Reload with R during a lull rather than waiting for the clip to run dry in a fight.
• Pair a long-range gun with a close-range one so you always have the right tool after a quick swap.
• In objective modes, a vehicle can win the fight for the flag or the hill, but it also draws every enemy's attention.
• Use the right mouse button only when you have time to line up a shot; hip fire is often better up close.
